Recipe adapted from Stephanie over at maysquared.com.

Servings

4

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef {use more if you prefer thicker patties}
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 2 garlic cloves {minced}
  • salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 4 whole wheat buns
  • 4-6 slices prosciutto {thinly sliced}
  • 4 slices cheese of your choice {I used feta crumbles and Justin uses sliced swiss}
  • 2 avocados {cut in half and then sliced lengthwise}
  • mayo or other condiments {I use safflower mayonnaise.}
  • red onion {thinly sliced}

Directions

  1. Mix the ground beef with the minced garlic, salt and pepper {to your liking}, and dried basil.  Shape the beef into 4 uniform patties and press a small indent in the middle of each patty to keep them from bulging when cooked.
  2. Preheat your grill to medium high heat and clean thoroughly.  Spray the grill with grilling oil or lightly oil each patty with canola oil.
  3. Grill each patty to desired temperature.
  4. Once the patties are done, remove them and then grill your prosciutto strips for about a minute {or until they crisp up}.
  5. Load up your burger with condiments {Safflower mayo, mustard, whatever you prefer!} on each bun, then the patty, your cheese, onion, prosciutto slices, and lastly, the avocado slices.

    Who would have thought putting prosciutto on a burger would make it so delicious?! Love this idea and will definitely be trying it out. Thanks for sharing!

    I know right?! I’d never thought of either. And then combined with avocado…oh my goodness, YUM. :)
